Pura Vida Miami Lead, Data Engineering in Miami, Florida

We are a lifestyle brand!

We are on a mission to provide the world with simple, wholesome food and beverage items that fit today's lifestyle, offering an intimate - yet fast and consistent - experience to our customers.

We love and take pride in what we do, and we currently offer an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and ever-growing brand in this industry.

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are seeking a high-energy Lead, Data Engineering to join our team in-person at our Corporate HQ. You will be the architect and builder of our modern data stack, responsible for the "pipes" of our organization—designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that aggregates guest, financial, and operational data into a centralized GCP Data Lakehouse.

Reporting directly to the Product Engineering Manager, you will be a key member of the engineering pod, working physically alongside our product and project leads to turn raw data from our website, mobile app, and Toast POS into actionable business intelligence. This is a role for a technical builder who thrives in a collaborative, face-to-face office environment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • GCP Infrastructure Management: Architect and maintain our data warehouse environment using Google BigQuery, ensuring high performance, cost-optimization, and scalable partitioning.

  • Looker Modeling (LookML): Serve as the primary LookML Developer. Define the semantic layer, dimensions, and measures to ensure a "Single Source of Truth" for all business users.

  • Pipeline Orchestration: Design and manage automated ETL/ELT workflows using Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow) or dbt (data build tool) to transform raw source data into analytics-ready tables.

  • API & Ingestion Engineering: Develop and maintain custom connectors and scripts (Python/Node.js) to pull data from third-party APIs—including Toast POS, Stayntouch (PMS), Salesforce (CRM), and GA4.

  • Data Lakehouse Architecture: Organize data across landing, staging, and production zones, implementing "Medallion Architecture" (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to ensure data quality at every stage.

  • In-Person Engineering Collaboration: Participate in daily on-site standups and whiteboarding sessions with the Product Engineering team to ensure that upstream app changes are reflected downstream in the data lake.

  • Security & Governance: Implement Column-Level security and Row-Level security within BigQuery and Looker to ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and PCI-DSS.

  • Data Quality & Observability: Build automated testing and monitoring to alert the team when a data sync fails or when data integrity falls below thresholds.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Data Engineering, with a heavy focus on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Expertise in SQL: Mastery of complex joins, window functions, and query optimization within BigQuery.

  • Looker Mastery: Proven experience building complex Looker Models, Explores, and Dashboards using Looker (LookML).

  • Python Proficiency: Ability to write clean, documented code for data extraction and API manipulation.

  • API Integration: Hands-on experience working with REST/GraphQL APIs and handling authentication (OAuth2, API Keys).

  • dbt Experience: Familiarity with using dbt for in-warehouse transformations and documentation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • GCP Certifications: Professional Data Engineer or Looker Business Analyst certification.

  • Hospitality Data Experience: Familiarity with the data structures of Toast POS, Property Management Systems, or travel booking engines.

  • AI/ML Integration: Experience preparing datasets for Vertex AI or building predictive models within BigQuery (BigQuery ML).

  • Version Control: Expertise in Git/GitHub for managing LookML and pipeline code.

BENEFITS:

  • Health & Wellness – Medical, Dental & Vision

  • PTO

  • Discounted Meals

  • Growth Opportunities

  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match
