Location: St. Luke’s Health System - Meridian, Idaho
Employment Type: Part-Time (0.5 FTE or as determined by department needs)
Schedule: Variable shifts, primarily weekdays with potential limited weekend or holiday coverage based on operational needs
Job Summary
St. Luke’s Health System is seeking a detail-oriented and quality-focused Compounding Pharmacist to support pharmacy operations in Meridian, Idaho. This role is responsible for the safe and compliant preparation, verification, and dispensing of compounded medications, including both sterile and non-sterile preparations as applicable.
The pharmacist works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership, technicians, and healthcare providers to ensure high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and adherence to compounding best practices. This position plays a critical role in maintaining patient safety and operational excellence within compounding services.
Key Responsibilities
Compounding & Dispensing * Prepare, compound, and verify sterile and/or non-sterile medications in accordance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards * Ensure accuracy of formulations, calculations, labeling, and final product verification * Maintain aseptic technique and proper use of compounding equipment and cleanroom environments * Oversee compounding workflows and support pharmacy technicians in preparation activities
Compliance & Quality Assurance * Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Idaho Board of Pharmacy requirements * Maintain compounding logs, batch records, and quality assurance documentation * Participate in environmental monitoring, cleaning validation, and quality improvement initiatives * Identify and mitigate risks related to compounding processes and medication safety
Clinical & Operational Support * Review medication orders for appropriateness, dosing, compatibility, and stability * Collaborate with prescribers and clinical teams regarding compounded therapies * Support workflow optimization and efficiency within compounding operations * Assist with inventory management of compounding supplies and hazardous drugs
Training & Education * Train and mentor pharmacy technicians in compounding procedures and compliance standards * Promote adherence to best practices and continuous improvement within the team * Stay current with evolving compounding regulations and standards
Minimum Qualifications
Education: * Degree from an accredited pharmacy program (PharmD or BS Pharmacy)
Experience: * Minimum 1 year of pharmacy experience preferred * Compounding experience (sterile and/or non-sterile) strongly preferred
Licenses/Certifications: * Active Pharmacist license in the state of Idaho * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA, ARC, or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications * Experience in hospital, outpatient, or specialty compounding pharmacy settings * Familiarity with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> regulations * Experience with hazardous drug handling and cleanroom operations * Experience with EPIC or similar electronic health record systems
