Job Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining roll forming equipment and laser welding machines to produce high-quality components safely, efficiently, and to specification. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues while meeting production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor roll forming machines and laser welding equipment
- Load raw materials (sheet metal) and unload finished products
- Adjust machine settings to meet job specifications, drawings, and tolerances
- Perform test runs to verify proper machine operation and product quality
Quality & Safety
- Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and defects
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and PPE guidelines
- Identify quality issues and notify supervision immediately
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Troubleshooting
- Perform basic routine preventive maintenance on machines
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, or operational issues
- Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly
- Assist maintenance personnel during repairs when needed
Production & Documentation
- Meet daily production targets and schedules
- Accurately complete production reporting documents
- Communicate material shortages, delays, or issues to supervision
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment
- Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with roll forming equipment and/or laser welding machines
- Sheet metal fabrication experience
- CNC or automated machinery experience
- Forklift or overhead crane experience (or willingness to be trained)
