About the role The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical components, systems, and equipment for both new and existing products. This position leads advanced mechanical engineering initiatives, mentors and trains engineering staff, supports continuous improvement, and researches and recommends new design tools, technologies, and engineering processes. Responsibilities Complete the product design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and systems, including detailed assembly drawings, part drawings, and engineering documentation from concept through manufacturing release. Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and incorporate customer feedback to strengthen product design and development. Develop technical documentation and electronic help files that support new product introductions and engineering workflows. Train and mentor engineers, provide technical leadership, and manage one or more engineering projects. Research emerging mechanical engineering technologies, recommend solutions to management, and oversee implementation of new tools and processes. Review, evaluate, and continuously improve departmental engineering processes and policies, with a focus on design optimization and development efficiency. Create and present multiple mechanical design concepts to cross‑functional engineering teams and stakeholders. Collaborate with Document Control to produce comprehensive design packages, including 2‑D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs); ensure timely updates to documentation for existing products. Ensure system and product quality by designing effective testing methodologies and validation procedures. Test and evaluate finished products and system capabilities to verify performance and compliance with specifications. Confirm proper fabrication, assembly, and installation processes by reviewing manufacturing workflows and quality checkpoints. Develop and execute testing and validation plans, ensuring products meet reliability, performance, and safety requirements. Prepare detailed engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing mechanical design data, performance metrics, and product trends. Analyze existing designs for engineering improvements, optimization opportunities, and troubleshooting. Research various mechanical engineering challenges, including component functionality, manufacturing processes, and materials. Verify that all design and project objectives comply with customer requirements and Leviton engineering standards. Qualifications Strong project management and engineering leadership. Skilled in mechanical design, prototyping, and evaluation of injection‑molded plastics, metal stampings, die castings, and sheet‑metal parts. Creative, solution‑oriented problem solver for complex mechanical systems. Able to make independent engineering decisions with minimal guidance. Proficient in using engineering economic analysis to support technical and cost‑driven decisions.
