Robert Half Bookkeeper in Melville, New York
Description
A well-established construction company based in Melville, NY, seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper to step into an active and fast-moving environment. This role requires someone comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping, cleaning up accounts where needed, and working closely with operations.
Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.
This is an in-office role Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM requiring attention to detail, accountability, and the confidence to handle pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Full-cycle bookkeeping using QuickBooks Online
Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
Job-related expensing and cost tracking
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Sales tax calculation, filing, and compliance (required)
Payroll and payroll reconciliation
Work closely with operations using ServiceFusion
Maintain accurate financial records and support ongoing clean-up or correction work as needed
Assist ownership/management with ad hoc financial reporting and requests
Requirements
Required Qualifications
5+ years of bookkeeping experience (construction or service-based industry preferred)
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online
Solid understanding of sales tax requirements (required)
Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations
Payroll reconciliation experience
Comfortable in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment
Thick skin and ability to step into an existing situation and bring order
High attention to detail and follow-through
In-office availability during scheduled hours
