Principal Electrical Engineer - Avionics Systems
Job Description
As a Principal Electrical Engineer specializing in Avionics Systems, you will play a pivotal role in supporting global Electronic Design teams. You will coordinate, review, and oversee design, development, and testing activities for space applications, focusing on avionics systems for micro-satellites. This position offers the autonomy to work independently while collaborating within a highly skilled team, including support from a multi-functional team based in Italy.
Responsibilities
Provide proposal support for Avionics and Electrical systems.
Assess system performance, conduct design trades, and evaluate system effectiveness.
Review electrical schematics, layout, and manufacturing specifications.
Define board-level hardware architectures and select EEE parts.
Define and execute Avionics testing procedures.
Develop and manage subsystem specifications.
Conduct preliminary subsystem/component validation through analysis and simulations.
Collaborate with other functional areas within the company.
Essential Skills
At least 14 years of professional experience in a relevant role, with experience in space systems design and integration.
Extensive experience with On-Board Computers (OBCs) and Power Control and Distribution Units (PCDUs).
Deep knowledge in analog, digital, and power electronics.
Familiarity with FPGA design, including architecture definition, programming, and validation.
Strong focus on designing for EMC/EMI.
US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is required.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Science, Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Industry experience in Space or Defense sector is advantageous.
Comprehensive understanding of space standards such as CCSDS and ECSS.
Extensive knowledge of laboratory instruments.
Ability to establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
Proficiency in Altium Designer.
Knowledge of RF electronic devices and complex PCB layout design.
Experience in programming embedded micro-controllers/processors.
Experience in scheduling and coordinating activities for avionics projects.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Progressive experience in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
Strong multi-tasking skills and organizational abilities.
Impeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgency.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
