The Opportunity

KBR is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex Defence programs within our Mission Integration Operating Unit.

This is a senior role acting as Technical Authority, responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, governance, and quality of engineering outcomes across major Defence programs and capture activities.

You will work closely with engineering leaders, program managers, and Defence stakeholders to provide strategic technical direction, engineering assurance, and capability development across the Mission Systems portfolio.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who is passionate about delivering complex Defence capability while shaping the next generation of engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical leadership and assurance across multiple Defence programs.

  • Act as Technical Authority, ensuring engineering standards, governance, and compliance frameworks are applied.

  • Lead technical reviews, engineering assurance activities, and design governance across projects.

  • Provide expert advice to program teams on complex engineering challenges and system integration.

  • Oversee engineering processes and ensure alignment with KBR and Defence regulatory frameworks.

  • Mentor and develop engineering leaders while supporting workforce capability and professionalisation.

  • Collaborate with Defence stakeholders and internal teams to support delivery of mission-critical capability.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

About You

You are a Senior Engineering Leader with experience delivering complex systems within Defence or other highly regulated environments.

You will bring:

  • 15+ years’ engineering experience, including leadership of complex technical programs.

  • Experience delivering systems engineering outcomes across the full lifecycle.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering governance, assurance, certification and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience working with Defence organisations such as CASG, NGS, GWEO or DSTG.

  • Understanding of ASDEFCON engineering frameworks and Defence program environments.

  • Professional Engineer registration or eligibility (e.g. CPEng / FIEAust / PE).

  • Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1 or higher).

Experience with software-intensive systems, digital engineering environments, system safety, or integrated mission systems will be highly regarded.
