AON Business Development Manager in Melbourne, Australia

  • Established middle market sales team

Business Development Manager

A core Client Segment within Aon Australia, Global & Corporate specialise in the provision of exceptional Insurance and Risk Management Services to a broad portfolio of privately owned, publicly listed and government organisations including a number of ASX-listed companies and major multinationals.

In this role, you will act as a pure producer within the middle market sector (beyond top ASX 200) across industries where the ultimate relationship manager leading the accounts will reside in the G&C business.

What the day will look like

  • Ensuring the assigned new business budgets are achieved for the Global & Corporate business segment

  • Focusing on the “middle market” component of the market – defined loosely as organisations generating revenue exceeding $200 million up to organisations in the top ASX 200 or top 50 – 100 private companies

  • Establish a “universe” of potential clients through detailed local market planning, research and collaboration with Aon SMEs (including specific Industry Practice Leaders in focus sectors such as Power, Energy & Utilities, Healthcare, Aged Care and Community Services, Mining, Real Estate etc)

  • Develop and maintain an active and accurate sales pipeline, sharing and coordinating external leads in a collaborative manner across Aon

  • Engaging with potential clients through cold-calling, insight selling, pro-active marketing, presentations, networking and any other methods that will generate qualified leads

  • Develop, from a strategic perspective, opportunities for the cross-sell of products, services and risk solutions to current and potential clients

  • Ensure representation of Aon within the business community by seeking and accepting appropriate opportunities to present the company’s interests and perspectives

  • Participate and coordinate RFP / tender processes to maximise winning opportunities

  • Providing leadership and guidance to the business around management of relevant prospects and the sales process

  • Monitor and report on results whilst accurately managing your pipeline

  • Collaborate closely with Aon’s Bid Management & Growth Operations team around opportunities

  • Creating opportunities for other parts of Aon (e.g., the various Solution Lines – Commercial Risk, Human Capital and Specialty Solutions) as part of the pursuit of opportunities for the Global & Corporate business segment

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • A proven track record of success in a B2B business development/ lead generation role for a professional/ financial services firm

  • Self-motivated to put in the necessary time to research and pursue leads & opportunities

  • Exceptional communication abilities with the capability of presenting to C-suite executives

  • Highly self-motivated with a creative solutions-focused mind-set

  • The capacity for researching industry sectors and engaging intelligently with prospects in an informed and inquisitive manner

  • General Insurance experience is not essential – but successful candidates will be expected to “learn Aon IQ” swiftly through engagement with our various Industry Practice leaders and other SMEs

  • Ability to work in a time-poor competitive RFP environment in conjunction with Aon’s Bid management team – often acting in a project support capacity with Bid and the broader team assigned to an opportunity

  • Strong team collaboration and internal relationship building skills

  • A natural curiosity and interest to learn about new products and/or consulting services
