WSP USA Construction Materials Technician in Medicine Hat, Alberta

As a Construction Materials Technician based in Medicine Hat , you will support the quality and integrity of infrastructure and renewable energy projects across southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. From testing aggregates and concrete to validating performance in the field, you’ll be part of the work that strengthens communities and moves our world forward.
Your Impact
• Conduct field testing for aggregates, concrete, soils, asphalt, and additional construction materials.
• Complete certified testing procedures with accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to technical standards.
• Report, interpret, and document test results on-site and within the lab.
• Maintain, calibrate, and clean equipment to uphold safety and quality requirements.
• Prepare concrete/soil quality materials and perform concrete testing and repairs.
• Contribute to internal quality standards, meet performance targets, and satisfy regulatory standards.
• Carry out manual labour tasks including lifting, loading, equipment assembly, and the safe operation of trucks.
• Document all field activities with digital notes, photos, and accurate reporting.
• Maintain tools, vehicles, and field equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Follow direction from field supervisors and collaborate with project managers to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous learning within team systems.
• Travel regularly to remote locations for multi day assignments in varying weather conditions.
The Skills That Set You Apart
• Post secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
• 1 to 2 years of experience.
• Experience testing soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt materials in field or lab settings.
• Proficiency in field testing equipment, including preparing/testing samples.
• Strong understanding of Canadian testing standards and specifications.
• Skilled in data interpretation and report preparation.
• Ability to work extended days, travel out of town, and adapt to field rotations.
• Physically able to perform hands-on labour tasks and safely handle equipment (including 50+ lbs lifting).
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round in demanding conditions.
• Strong listening, comprehension, and documentation abilities

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $57,500 – $76,200
MB & ON: $52,500 – $72,300
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $57,500 – $76,200
