Job Description
This onsite Product Development Engineer role focuses on mechanical design for electric motor integration in marine power systems, including small fishing and pontoon boats up to 10 horsepower. You will bring mechanical design work in-house, drive new product development and enhancements to existing products, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions for electrified marine applications.
Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and systems for integrating electric motors into marine power products, with a focus on small fishing and pontoon boats.
Lead and support component- and system-level design activities involving injection-molded parts, die-cast components, and stamped or sheet metal structures.
Apply strong die design knowledge throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure manufacturability, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Perform section analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity and performance of components and assemblies.
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal engineering stakeholders to ensure alignment on design intent, feasibility, and production readiness.
Support the full design process from concept through production, including prototype development, design refinement, and production release.
Participate in and contribute to formal design reviews, presenting technical options and driving sound engineering decisions for assigned components and systems.
Incorporate design-for-manufacturability principles and DFMEA practices into designs to improve quality, reliability, and ease of production.
Contribute to the transition of engineering work from external partners to the in-house team by developing robust design standards, documentation, and best practices.
Work onsite with the engineering team to rapidly iterate on designs, address technical issues, and support ongoing product improvements.
Essential Skills
Minimum 5+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally focused on injection molding and/or die casting and die design.
Strong in stamping technologies and sheet metal design for structural and enclosure components.
Proven experience performing FEA and structural analysis to validate mechanical designs.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Proficiency with 3D CAD tools, with CATIA preferred and SolidWorks or Creo considered acceptable.
Ability to work onsite and collaborate closely with an in-house engineering team in a hands-on development environment
