UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN Optomechanical Engineering Associate, Observing Support in MCDONALD OBSERVATORY, Texas
Facility and Instrumentation Support. Performs maintenance and repairs on McDonald Observatory's astronomical instruments, including the 107-inch Harlen J. Smith Telescope (HJST), the historic Otto Struve Telescope, and the 30- and 36-inch facilities. Assists with upgrades, modifications, as well as design and machining as directed.Tenant Support. Performs maintenance and repairs on the tenant facilities that are supported by McDonald Observatory.Operations Support. Assists in general operations tasks, including instrument changes, optical cleaning, optical recoating, and telescope assembly. Provides technical support for observing, including reviewing night logs for problems, refilling cryogens, and changing filters, among other tasks. May lead operations support efforts and supervises the 107-inch machine shop.Documentation. Assists in quality control checks and upgrades to the Operation and Maintenance (OandM) Manuals for the optical and mechanical systems in coordination with management.Performs other related duties as assigned. Drive a UT vehicle.
