Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager for the Telemetry Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocation Nurse, the Monitor Technician provides continual telemetry monitoring, as well as a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring admission to the Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing high-quality patient care activities as delegated by and under the supervision of the registered professional nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Monitor Technician will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Monitor Technician must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Monitor Technician will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in-services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.

What you will do in this role:

  • Contributes to the learning of new employees, students, floats & agency personnel

  • Participates and provides input in staff meetings.

  • Maintains departmental attendance standards as per hospital-wide policy.

  • Maintains confidentiality.

  • Efficient and effective in daily performance, uses time management skills to be a productive member of the department’s team.

  • Follows through with tasks / problems and gives necessary feedback.

  • Promptly investigates and follows up on unusual incidents and communicates with supervisors.

What qualifications you will need:

  • BLS for Health Care Providers

  • Certified as telemetry technician by recognized program or the organization identified equivalent

  • Competency assessment of rhythm interpretation skills required prior to monitoring patients without supervision of licensed staff
