Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

Job Description

The Maintenance Engineer works at an assigned auction site to identify vehicles with open recalls and complete recall repair work accurately and safely. This role combines hands-on mechanical work, diagnostic testing, and careful documentation using company software and tools. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently outdoors while collaborating professionally with internal teams and auction staff.

Responsibilities

  • Work on-site at the assigned auction location to support recall repair operations.

  • Scan and identify vehicle inventory at the auction for open recalls using provided tools and processes.

  • Perform recall repair work on listed and approved vehicles in accordance with recall documentation.

  • Follow all recall documents and instructions carefully to ensure safe, proper, and compliant repair steps.

  • Use provided recall vehicle lists and update them as work is completed, ensuring all available parts are used appropriately.

  • Submit completed recall work as jobs in Autoleap, including all required information and photos or media when needed.

  • Upload photos of receipts into the Bill Pay application when using the company card for fuel, lodging, and flights.

  • Maintain a courteous, professional attitude when interacting with team members, external clients, auction staff, and security personnel.

  • Store and secure all provided parts properly in their original packaging to prevent damage or loss.

  • Keep parts, tools, and materials organized in the work vehicle and storage unit for efficient access and use.

  • Prepare and stage parts in the work vehicle and storage unit in advance to support daily repair activities.

  • Return cores in their original packaging to the designated hub in a timely and organized manner.

  • Request parts through the current ordering process, allowing sufficient lead time to receive parts before they are needed.

  • Adhere to all auction guidelines, safety protocols, security measures, and operational directives while on-site.

  • Set a weekly work schedule and communicate it to the logistics coordinator or upper management for planning purposes.

  • Participate in 2–3 weeks of on-site training with a trainer to learn procedures, systems, and quality standards.

  • Use mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic testing skills to identify and resolve issues during recall repairs.

  • Use hand tools and basic equipment safely and effectively to perform installation, service, and repair tasks.

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used, supporting clear billing and reporting.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience working in a trade performing installation or service work.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostic testing, and repair.

  • Proficiency using basic hand tools safely and effectively in a service or maintenance environment.

  • Ability to perform mechanical installation, service, and repair tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Valid driver’s license (Real ID) and ability to travel to and from auction sites as required.

  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors all day in various weather conditions.

  • Familiarity with computer software such as CMMS systems or Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to use or learn Autoleap for job submission and documentation.

  • Ability to use mobile or desktop applications such as Bill Pay for uploading receipts and expenses.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage parts, tools, and workspaces efficiently.

  • Professional communication skills to interact effectively with internal teams, clients, auction staff, and security personnel.

  • Ability to follow detailed written instructions and safety procedures accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ownership of a computer or tablet for training and online learning purposes.

  • Previous experience as a service technician or in a similar maintenance or repair role.

  • Experience working with vehicle-related repairs, recalls, or auction environments is beneficial.

  • Comfort working independently while maintaining regular communication with logistics and management.

  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, record-keeping, and parts management.

  • Proactive approach to scheduling, planning work, and requesting parts ahead of time.

  • Ability to adapt to a fast-growing operation and evolving processes.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, first-shift role working approximately 40 hours per week, with a flexible start time based on individual needs. You work primarily outdoors at an auction site and must be comfortable operating in various weather conditions throughout the year. The environment is active and hands-on, involving regular use of basic hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer or mobile applications such as CMMS software, Microsoft Office, Autoleap, and a Bill Pay app. Work is performed around vehicle inventory and auction operations, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols, security measures, and site guidelines. You will complete 2–3 weeks of on-site training with an experienced trainer to become familiar with the procedures, tools, and systems used in daily operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
