Insight Global Mechanical Engineer - L4 in Mason, Ohio
Job Description
A top Space manufacturing company in the Mason, OH area is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support their support of design, analysis, tolerancing, and testing of their opto-mechanical systems. This resource will follow the product from conceptualization to hardware integration and testing. They will also be responsible for:
• Provide technical leadership and oversight to multiple cross-disciplinary Engineering design teams. Teams will be tasked with developing various types of ruggedized opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems and technologies.
• Oversee or directly perform the conceptualization and development of working designs, computer models, layouts and drawings using MCAD/MCAE tools.
• Develop, review and approve engineering documentation, including product specifications, drawings, assembly procedures, and test plans/procedures. A comprehensive understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and DFMA is required. Experience with tolerance stack methodology is preferred.
• Perform mechanical analyses of components and subsystems employing both classical and Finite Element methods. Analyses may be quasi-static, kinematic and/or dynamic in nature, and are intended to characterize or verify the structural integrity, stability and performance of the hardware.
• Prepare and review schedules, specifications, process standards, and other contract documentation to plan the successful execution of multi-year, multi-million-dollar development efforts.
• Participate (as a presenter and/or reviewer) in internal and customer design reviews intended to demonstrate design conformance to all derived requirements and customer specifications.
• Assist the Purchasing Dept. with procurement of product hardware including vendor certification, vendor oversight, product source inspection, and nonconformance disposition, as required.
• Support the assembly, integration and test of the product or prototype hardware.
• Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems • Manual, applicable Standard Work Instructions and other standards invoked internally or contractually.

Skills and Requirements
6+ years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering in the aviation or aerospace industry
Experience with thermal, structural, or finite element analysis (BOM and Optimization)
Experience working with complex systems (electro-optical, lidar, radar, sensors, or cryogenic/cryocoolers)
Experience owning the lifecycle of a project from concept to handoff
4+ years of experience with GD&T - Electrical Design and packaging
Structural analysis with high vacuum, cryogenics, or opto-mechanics
MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461
Tolerance stack methodology
