Job Title: Procurement Specialist

Job Description

The Procurement Specialist manages mid-range sourcing events for materials, supplies, and services, typically between $25,000 and $100,000, to support production and sales operations across the North American region. This role uses a primarily proactive, and at times reactive, approach to sourcing by leveraging quotes, catalogs, targeted supplier lists, and other procurement processes. The Procurement Specialist partners closely with Tactical Spend Management and Indirect Strategic Sourcing teams to ensure that spend under $100,000 aligns with the organization’s strategic purchasing direction and that stakeholders receive the right materials from the right suppliers at the right price and at the right time.

Responsibilities

  • Execute sourcing activities for consumable materials, goods, and services with budget amounts between $25,000 and $100,000.

  • Use catalogs, targeted supplier lists, and quoting processes to support both proactive and reactive sourcing needs while meeting stakeholder timelines.

  • Direct internal stakeholders to appropriate sourcing strategies and guide them through the use of catalogs and preferred suppliers.

  • Lead internal reviews of supplier responses to procurement events and facilitate decision analysis to support supplier selection.

  • Collaborate with Tactical Spend Management and Indirect Strategic Sourcing teams to conduct category analysis and category management activities.

  • Share ideas, negotiate, and build consensus across North American sites to drive alignment with sourcing strategies.

  • Build and maintain a network of productive relationships across North American locations to support compliance with procurement policies and processes.

  • Apply procurement processes and best practices to ensure that sourcing activities support business objectives and stakeholder needs.

  • Manage time effectively and handle multiple stakeholder requests simultaneously while maintaining service quality.

  • Communicate clearly with various audiences and maintain professionalism and composure during challenging or complex conversations.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 0–2 years of experience in a purchasing, procurement, or closely related role, or in a field where relevant job knowledge and skills apply.

  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with SAP Ariba or a major ERP system.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored to various internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to demonstrate active listening skills to accurately understand and respond to customer and stakeholder needs.

  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism during difficult or high-pressure conversations.

  • Aptitude to learn, understand, and clearly explain procurement processes and best practices.

  • Effective time management skills with the flexibility to manage multiple customer or stakeholder requests simultaneously.

  • Foundational skills in procurement and purchasing, including supplier management, purchase order handling, and vendor interaction.

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, crouching, reaching, standing, sitting, stooping, walking, and pushing/pulling equipment at a moderate level.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs at a strong level and up to 50 lbs with limited experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with procurement, purchasing, and strategic sourcing processes.

  • Exposure to supplier performance monitoring and vendor management.

  • Experience with purchase order creation, tracking, and follow-up.

  • Ability to contribute to category analysis and category management initiatives.

  • Comfort working with targeted supplier lists and catalog-based sourcing.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.

  • Strong relationship-building skills to develop and maintain a productive internal and external network.

  • Interest in growing within procurement and sourcing functions and expanding knowledge of best practices.

Work Environment

The role supports production and sales operations across North American sites in a professional, collaborative environment focused on strategic and tactical procurement. Work primarily involves computer-based tasks using tools such as Microsoft Office and SAP Ariba or similar ERP systems, along with frequent communication with internal stakeholders and suppliers. The position may require moderate physical activity, including bending, crouching, reaching, standing, sitting, stooping, walking, and pushing or pulling equipment, as well as lifting and carrying items up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally. The work setting does not typically involve exposure to combustible liquids, compressed gases, flammable gases, or extreme temperatures. The culture emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, building consensus across multiple sites, and maintaining professionalism and clear communication while managing multiple priorities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marysville, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
