Veterinary Technician\ Mars Hill, ME Temp-to-Hire Opportunity\ \ Schedule:Full-Time or Part-Time, Nights and Evenings; 8-hour shifts available 4:00 PM 8:00 AM, Thurs-Mon.\ Pay Rate:\$21.00\$25.00/hr., depending on experience\ \ Job Description:\ We are seeking Veterinary Technicians to join an emergency care center in Mars Hill. This is an excellent opportunity for new or experienced veterinary professionals to provide essential care for animals and their families in Aroostook County. Maine CVT certification is preferred but not required; candidates with advanced veterinary or medical experience will receive training.\ \ The Veterinary Technician will be a key member of the emergency care team, delivering high-quality, compassionate care for patients. Responsibilities include triage, patient monitoring, anesthesia support, surgery assistance, in-house lab work, radiology, and IV therapy. The technician will work closely with veterinarians and administrative staff to maintain ER readiness, develop efficient protocols, and foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate remains calm under pressure, is highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced setting. Prior emergency care or ICU experience preferred.\ \ Responsibilities:
- Prepare exam rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas for patient care.
- Assist with patient intake, including obtaining histories, weighing, and safely restraining animals.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under veterinarian supervision.
- Triage and monitor emergency patients and assist with surgeries.
- Participate in emergency response, including CPR, trauma stabilization, and critical care monitoring.
- Monitor and document patient vitals, recovery progress, and clinical observations.
- Perform in-house lab work, radiology, anesthesia, and IV therapy.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and workspaces to maintain infection control.
- Maintain inventory of medications, supplies, and equipment; assist with ordering and restocking.
- Provide client education, including post-treatment care instructions and preventive care guidance.
- Support quality assurance initiatives through record-keeping and adherence to protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
\ Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Maine CVT license preferred; candidates with prior veterinary or medical care experience will be considered.
- Emergency or ICU technician experience preferred.
- Calm under pressure, highly organized, and able to multitask effectively.
- Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
- Background check required.
