Hungry Mother State Park is accepting applications for a Dock N Shop Supervisor position.

Job Summary:

Dock n Shop Rangers operate the parks watercraft rental and retail area by assisting visitors, renting and returning equipment, enforcing safety rules, and maintaining clean and organized dock and shop areas.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support Dock N Shop Rangers in the daily operations of the dock and retail area
• Coordinate staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage during operating hours
• Train staff on rental procedures, safety rules, customer service expectations, and equipment use
• Rent watercraft and explain safety rules and equipment use to visitors
• Assist visitors with launching and returning boats at the dock
• Fit and issue personal flotation devices (PFDs)
• Inspect, clean, and maintain watercraft and rental equipment
• Ensure dock, shop, and retail areas remain clean, organized, and visitor-ready
• Complete and oversee opening and closing checklists and rental documentation
• Handle or oversee cash and electronic transactions accurately
• Monitor visitor safety and enforce park and boating safety rules
• Communicate operational needs, maintenance issues, and visitor concerns to park management
• Work variable hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak visitor periods

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures and provide clear instructions to visitors and staff
• Ability to supervise and support seasonal staff in a team environment
• Ability to work outdoors, lift and carry watercraft and equipment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
• Ability to work in a busy, public recreation environment

Additional Considerations:

• Experience with kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, or boating preferred
• Experience supervising staff, coordinating schedules, or training employees preferred
• Experience in retail, rentals, or outdoor recreation preferred

Special Instructions:

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Drivers License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
