1:1 Registered Behavior Technician / Behavior Technician – Marion, NC

Hours: Up to 40 hours/week

Schedule: Full-Time, Remainder of the 2025–2026 School Year

Start Date: ASAP (Estimated 2/23/2026)

Setting: Local School in Marion, NC

About the Role

Amergis is seeking experienced 1:1 Behavior Technicians to support a 6th grade male student in a self-contained classroom for the remainder of the school year. The student is autistic, nonverbal, diagnosed with PICA, and requires a dedicated and compassionate professional who is confident working with aggressive and high-needs behaviors.

This is a full-time school-based position offering weekly pay, stability through the end of the school year, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a student’s daily life.

Student Profile & Responsibilities

You will work exclusively 1:1 with this student. Duties include:

  • Supporting a nonverbal autistic student with significant behavioral needs

  • Managing behaviors including:

  • Biting

  • Scratching

  • Flopping to the ground

  • Some elopement

  • PICA behaviors (putting objects in mouth)

  • Providing bathroom assistance as needed

  • Implementing behavioral strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Ensuring student safety during the day

  • Providing consistency and structure during the first two weeks, which may be challenging as the student transitions to a new 1:1 (behaviors typically decrease once the student is comfortable)

  • No bus riding or transportation duties required

    Student strengths:

  • Enjoys hugging

  • Loves puzzles

  • Enjoys listening to music

    Requirements

  • Experience working 1:1 with individuals with behavioral needs (ABA, school-based, psych/behavioral health, etc.)

  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) highly preferred

  • Must be comfortable working with nonverbal autistic students

  • Must be comfortable supporting extreme behavioral cases

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children with Autism, ADD/ADHD, and/or aggressive behaviors

  • Previous school experience preferred
