Job Title: CNC Machinist / Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating 4-axis CNC mills and lathes in a small, close-knit machine shop. You will handle machine set-ups, changeovers, and production runs while inspecting your own parts to ensure quality. You will work primarily with Okuma and Hurco machines, and you will have the opportunity to use and develop programming skills in G-code and conversational programming, with exposure to Mazak, SolidWorks, and Fusion 360.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 4-axis CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components according to specifications.

  • Perform machine changeovers efficiently, typically handling 1–3 set-ups per day.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining requirements and proper tooling.

  • Write or edit CNC programs in G-code to adjust for part requirements and process improvements.

  • Operate both mills and lathes confidently and safely throughout the production process.

  • Use micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect and verify dimensions and tolerances of machined parts.

  • Monitor machine performance during operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.

  • Collaborate with team members on workflow, problem-solving, and continuous improvement of machining processes.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of hands-on CNC machining experience.

  • Proven ability to complete CNC set-ups independently.

  • Experience running both CNC mills and lathes.

  • Ability to write or edit CNC programs in G-code.

  • Experience reading and working from blueprints.

  • Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and gauges for in-process inspection.

  • Experience working with Hurco mills.

  • Comfort working with Okuma and Hurco CNC equipment or similar machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with conversational CNC programming.

  • Additional experience writing G-code programs from scratch.

  • Familiarity with Mazak controls and workflows.

  • Exposure to or experience with SolidWorks for design interpretation or collaboration.

  • Exposure to or experience with Fusion 360 for CAM or programming support.

  • Ability to manage 1–3 set-ups per day while maintaining quality and efficiency.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in a small-shop environment.

Work Environment

The position is based in a small machine shop with approximately 22 team members, fostering a close-knit and family-friendly atmosphere where everyone works together. Work is performed on first shift only, with typical hours of either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shop uses 4-axis CNC mills and lathes, including Okuma and Hurco machines, and may involve interaction with Mazak controls as well as software such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360. The environment is production-focused yet collaborative, and you are expected to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area appropriate for a precision machining facility.

This is a Permanent position based out of Marion, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.

paid pto, but no health insurance offered but able to go to open market and find their own.

This is a fully onsite position in Marion,IN.
