Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs both preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of production machinery in a food manufacturing environment. This role combines mechanical and electrical repair work, including troubleshooting equipment up to 480V, interpreting blueprints and schematics, and supporting continuous operation of production lines and packaging equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on production machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Respond quickly to reactive maintenance needs by diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment.

  • Service and repair sauce applicators, topping applicators, packaging machinery, presses, box erectors, compressors, pumps, motors, mixers, and ovens.

  • Troubleshoot and work safely on electrical systems and components up to 480V.

  • Support PLC-controlled equipment as part of troubleshooting and repair activities.

  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics to identify issues and guide repairs.

  • Perform MIG and TIG welding as needed to repair or fabricate components.

  • Use personal tools and equipment to carry out maintenance and repair tasks effectively.

  • Collaborate with other maintenance personnel, machine operators, and production staff to identify issues and prioritize repairs.

  • Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status to relevant team members.

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety procedures while working on the production floor.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience as a maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills, including troubleshooting and repairing production machinery.

  • Strong electrical maintenance skills, including working safely with equipment up to 480V.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and blueprints.

  • Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment in a production setting.

  • Ability to perform both preventative and reactive maintenance on a variety of machinery.

  • Ownership and use of personal tools required to perform maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.

  • MIG welding experience for repair and fabrication tasks.

  • TIG welding experience for repair and fabrication tasks.

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional production teams, including machine operators and general laborers.

Work Environment

This role is based on the production floor in a food manufacturing facility, working closely with other maintenance personnel, machine operators, and general laborers. The position is on first shift, with current operations including work on Saturdays. The environment involves active production lines, industrial machinery, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and safety protocols. You will work with a variety of equipment, including high-voltage electrical systems, PLC-controlled machinery, and welding tools, in a setting that requires appropriate workwear suitable for a manufacturing floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manteno, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr.
