Environmental Compliance (EC) Supervisor I

Annual Salary: $45,000-$68,000
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of undergraduate core program in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Public Administration or closely related field.
- 5 years of professional laboratory experience, preferably at a wastewater treatment plant
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, technical specifications, and construction documents
- Professional laboratory experience following Standard Methods & QA/QC analysis
- Strong and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office-with strong skills in Word, Excel, Outlook
- OWEA Wastewater Lab Certification
- Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Certification
Position Summary:
The City of Mansfield is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to serve as Environmental Compliance Supervisor. Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor, this position performs advanced professional and supervisory work overseeing environmental compliance operations at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and all associated programs.
The Environmental Compliance Supervisor manages laboratory and pretreatment program staff, equipment, and records, ensuring full compliance with the City's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. This role leads, supervises, and coordinates personnel responsible for field sampling, laboratory analysis, regulatory documentation, and compliance reporting.
The position also ensures adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including the Wastewater Treatment Plant's Risk Management Program (RMP) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP). This role is critical to safeguarding public health and protecting the environment through effective regulatory oversight and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises, assigns and reviews the work of Laboratory Technician(s) and Sampling Aide(s) -- training and administering discipline as necessary
Conducts inspections, reviews data, and issues permits for Industrial Pretreatment Program
Assists in the preparation of reports (Monthly DMR, Quarterly & Annual IPP, Annual Biosolids, WIB/SSO) and maintains organized records
Directs and supervises the placement, operation, and maintenance of all sampling and laboratory equipment
Orders necessary supplies & equipment for laboratory and pretreatment
