The Job You Will Perform:
The Sr. Quality Engineer at Mansfield Mill is responsible for overseeing all aspects of product quality, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers. This role serves as a key liaison between Mansfield Mill personnel, IP Customer Technical Service (CTS), and strategic customers to address complaints and inquiries, discover root causes, and implement effective solutions. This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with organizational goals and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include managing laboratory operations for chemical and physical testing, coordinating quality trials, maintaining lab equipment reliability, and administering the mill’s Proficy system. The role also involves collaborating with the Finished Products (FP) team, analyzing quality data, reporting metrics, and providing strategic direction to support product strategy and customer satisfaction. The position reports to the Mill Optimization Manager.
Essential Responsibilities:
Act as primary contact for customer complaints, concerns, and field issues; interface with CTS managers.
Administer mill’s Proficy system and coordinate in-mill trials; monitor roll stock quality.
Collaborate closely with Finished Products team to manage trial work, evaluate non A-1 roll stock, and guide issue resolution.
Generate monthly complaint and credit statistics; prepare end-of-month quality reports.
Perform quarterly 1-on-1 evaluations; manage lab budget and ensure equipment reliability and accuracy.
The successful candidate will be required to work occasional overtime, weekends, and after hours/on-call response availability depending on customer and business demand.
The Skills You Will Bring:
Technical or Engineering degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in the paper industry
At least 1 year of previous supervisory experience preferred
Preferred experience in one or more of the following:
