Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Information Technology Specialist (Systems Analysis/Systems Administration) in Manhattan, Kansas

Summary In this position you will serve as an Information Technology Specialist with primary focus on facility management and control systems and server infrastructure, providing mission support for multiple agencies in a combined services environment. Responsibilities The duties may include, but are not limited to: Providing expertise in securing and integrating facility management and control systems with IT systems and infrastructure at NBAF. Performing work that involves Implementation, configuration, and administration of server systems used to host applications, websites, databases, and services. Maintaining hardware and software to ensure availability, security, and functionality of systems. Providing system administration for the NBAF IT activities related to various server systems. Acting as technical point of contact for any mandatory security Authorization and Accreditations for systems for which they are responsible. Participating as a team member or leader along with other IT specialists, customers, or support personnel on system development or redevelopment projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Providing IT system administration services and operational support for IT infrastructure including hardware, networking, operating system, storage, or application layer issues in a scientific, laboratory environment. Manage, configure, support, and implement audio visual technologies used in video teleconferencing, conference room technology, video surveillance, and telemetry as well as supporting VoIP telephony. Provide operational support, configuration, and planning for Facility-Related Control Systems. In addition, all applicants qualifying based on experience must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Applicants must demonstrate possession of these competencies within the body of the resume; no separate statements addressing them are required. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education There is no education requirement. First time hires to the federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Some lifting of equipment weighing 50 lbs. or less such as microcomputers and printers is required. Subject to possible exposure to contagious diseases, pathogens, and other environmental hazards within the laboratories. Expected to have a strong awareness of and willingness to comply with safety rules and regulations. Expected to wear appropriate personal safety equipment when necessary (safety glasses/goggles, laboratory scrubs, coveralls, rubber boots, etc.) and is expected to disrobe, shower in and shower out, and wear laboratory-issued uniforms when working in high Bio-Security Level 2, 3, and 4 laboratories as a regular part of his/her duties. Must receive and maintain a favorably adjudicated Public Trust - High Risk background investigation (Personnel Security form SF-85P) and Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) approval for handling and storing Select Agents and Toxins, which involves completing a security risk assessment (FBI form FD-961) and receiving an "unrestricted" status from the CJIS.
