Job Summary and Qualifications

The EEG Technician performs a wide variety of neurodiagnostic studies, including EEG (awake and sleep) in the lab, at the bedside of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, and in the Operating Room. The technician ensures patient safety and comfort while obtaining optimal results and providing detailed observations of clinical manifestations.

  • Perform standard and special procedure electroencephalographic recordings.

  • Summarize patient neurological status and clinical history.

  • Provide appropriate patientcare and detailed observation during procedures.

  • Maintain equipment and ensure electrical safety.

  • Performs standard electroencephalographic recordings (wake and sleep, portable, isolation, and electro cerebral silence evaluations) in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Performs special procedure EEGs and E.P.s, in the Intensive Care Unit/Operating Room.

  • Summarizes the patient’s neurological status and clinical history from the medical chart, patient or other knowledgeable persons.

  • Performs Ambulatory EEG and playback according to department policies and procedures.

  • Explains the procedures to the patient and any family members present.

  • Adapts instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and test findings.

  • Provides appropriate patientcare and detailed observation of clinical manifestations during seizures or other patient emergency situations.

  • Ensures electrical safety of patient at all times.

  • Keeps equipment in clean operating condition. Performs routine maintenance and notifies Clinical Engineering of need for major repairs.

  • Logs inappropriate patient data, enters orders, processes charges and prepares tests for interpretation by neurologist.

  • Assists physicians performing EMGs when needed.

  • Participates in hospital wide Quality Management Program.

  • Verifies department inventory levels and reorders additional supplies as needed.

  • Keep the exam rooms clean and prepared for each session.

  • Provides transcription of EEG reports, filing, scheduling, and billing for off-site services.

  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the demographics and/ or specific needs of the patient population served by the hospital.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in assessing, responding and adapting treatment of care to meet the needs of the patient population served by the hospital.

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Familiarity with the technical equipment.

  • Ability to transport patients via stretcher and wheelchair.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients, physicians and staff in other departments.

What qualifications you will need:

  • <1 year experience in EEG

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days
