Network Architect
Actalent is hiring a Network Architect for a large A&D company located around Manassas, VA. Position offer full time benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.) plus Paid Vacation and Paid Holidays. Preference on having an active secret clearance or previously held clearance, but a clearance can be processed (only need an interim to start). Company has flexible work hours, 4/10s (off every Friday) or 9/80 (off every other Friday).
Job Description
We are seeking a Network Architect to join a pivotal engineering team dedicated to developing innovative architectures for large Naval Submarine subsystems. This role involves creating a cohesive, open-architecture system that facilitates interoperability during joint operations with integrated fighting forces. The Network Architect will leverage their expertise to design a submarine's network system, establishing a private cloud for edge communication, functioning as the central nervous system that connects all other subsystems.
Responsibilities
Design, enhance, and plan computer network communications including specifications and schematics for network architecture across multiple subsystems.
Evaluate and recommend network hardware and software selections, implementation techniques, and tools to provide the most efficient solutions meeting both current and future capacity requirements.
Monitor and maintain networks, manage configurations, provide network support, resolve problems, analyze system performance, and evaluate performance metrics and failure analysis on product networks.
Interface with customers, developers, and support programs to ensure optimal communication flow between subsystems.
Conduct performance and failover testing of network devices to assess their impact on system stability.
Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware/software interconnections and interfaces, including firewalls, routers, switches, gateways, middleware, and OSI layer 1/2/3/4 functionality.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance network system performance and monitoring.
Document network configurations for working group presentations and exchanges.
Assess the feasibility of using single or dual Maximum Transmission Units (MTUs) within the PaaS environment.
Migrate to a 10.CCE for the PaaS network and reduce the number of Access Control Lists (ACLs) for Control Plane traffic while maintaining subsystem subnet ingress/egress.
Evaluate the application needs using Broadcast on VxLAN.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or related field.
5+ years of network integration experience for various network protocol standards including TCP/IP, HSRP/VRRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, RSTP, MSTP, DHCP, and more.
Experience with VxLAN.
Proficiency in analyzing VLANs, spanning-tree, routing protocols, ACLs, IP addressing, and subnetting.
Experience with virtual IP networks and virtual port routing.
Proficiency in packet analysis tools such as Wireshark or Sniffers.
Experience with high throughput streaming packets.
Familiarity with Kubernetes and Container Network Interfaces (CNI) technologies such as Calico, Flannels, and Canal.
Eligibility for a US Secret Clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in architecting and building complex supercomputing networks.
Proficiency in network troubleshooting and problem identification.
Familiarity with network device vendors such as Cisco and Arista.
Knowledge of 1/10/25/40/100 Gig protocols, serial and satellite links, cable standards, and optical specifications.
Familiarity with Linux OS, SNMP, Python is a plus.
Understanding of TCP/UDP protocol packet format is desirable.
Knowledge of Software Defined Networking using OVS is a plus.
Work Environment
This position requires 100% onsite work with occasional flexibility for remote work during sick days or paperwork days. The work schedule consists of four 10-hour days per week.

This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $110.00/hr.
