Position Summary
The Shipping Associate is responsible for preparing, packing, and shipping finished goods via domestic LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) and parcel carriers. This role ensures all shipments are packaged securely, labeled correctly, and shipped on time to meet customer expectations while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pack and crate products according to company standards to ensure safe transit
Build custom crates and use appropriate packaging materials to protect fragile or high-value items
Prepare and process domestic shipments using LTL and parcel carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS)
Accurately label shipments and verify shipping documentation
Weigh, measure, and record shipment details for carrier compliance and cost accuracy
Coordinate with shipping office or supervisors to prioritize daily shipments
Load and stage shipments for carrier pickup
Inspect finished goods prior to shipment to ensure quality and accuracy
Maintain inventory of packaging materials and notify leadership of shortages
Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools and equipment
Keep shipping and staging areas clean and organized
Assist with cycle counts, inventory movement, or material handling as needed
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
1 year of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment is required
1-3 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment preferred
Experience with LTL and parcel shipping processes strongly preferred
Ability to read and interpret packing instructions, work orders, and shipping documents
Basic computer skills; experience with shipping systems or ERP (SAP a plus)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with assistance)
Frequent standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift
Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or other material handling equipment (if certified)
Preferred Skills
Experience building crates or custom packaging solutions
Familiarity with freight class, dimensions, and shipping cost impacts
Knowledge of basic carrier requirements for LTL and parcel shipments
