CITY OF MACON Part-Time Firefighter in Macon, Missouri

SUMMARY:

The primary job duties for this position is to serve as a firefighter to control and extinguish fires, protect life and property, work under hazardous conditions and maintain Fire Department equipment, building and grounds by performing the duties as listed below: Note: This is not an all-encompassing list of duties to be performed and the job duties or responsibilities may change at the discretion of the immediate Supervisor, Fire Chief, and/or City Administrator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

Complete the following courses at the Macon Fire Department

  • Entry Firefighter (240 hours) o Emergency Driving

``` - Hazardous Materials Awareness

``` - Hazardous Materials Operations

```{=html}

``` - Emergency Medical Responder

```{=html}

``` - Perform the mechanical work involved in operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and tools.

``` - Have adequate health, physical strength and stamina to perform the job duties.

```{=html}

``` - Perform work from elevated areas, ladders, or roofs, including the aerial apparatus, which will be in in excess of 100 feet above the ground level.

``` - Respond to all emergency calls.

``` - Participate in all phases of fire suppression activities.

```{=html}

``` - Operate specialized hand and power tools for fire suppression and/or other emergency duties.

``` - Participate in drills, parades, and all types of fire prevention educational programs.

``` - Attend the minimum training classes as directed.

```{=html}

``` - Meet the minimum emergency call attendance.

Other duties as assigned. Job Description -

Shall have knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City of Macon and may be required to pass a test that demonstrates this ability within six (6) months of employment.

  • The Part-Time Firefighter shall receive certification to the levels of Emergency Medical Responder within 12 months and state certification of Hazardous Materials Operations from the Division of Fire Safety within eighteen (18) months of employment. The Macon Fire Department will only be responsible for paying for the testing procedure and the cost picked up by the Macon Fire Department shall not exceed customary fees. This is a onetime fee. If the candidate does not pass the exam, they will be responsible for additional testing fees.
