Special Education Teacher (LBS1) – $50/hr – Machesney Park, IL – 13-Week Assignment
Position Overview:
The Special Education Teacher provides services to students in grades K–12 under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator. This educator delivers specialized instruction, supports behavioral and academic needs, collaborates with general education staff, and ensures individualized programs are implemented effectively.
Assignment Details:
Location: Machesney Park, IL
Start Date: March 16, 2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., 30-min unpaid break)
Pay Rate: $50/hour (local)
Modality: In-person
Openings: 1 position
Details of Assignment:
Self-contained elementary classroom
Low student-to-teacher ratios; Amergisum 10 students : 1 teacher : 1 paraprofessional
Mix of mild/moderate and moderate/severe behavioral needs
Students supported across multiple ability levels
Required two-step interview process:
1st round: Virtual interview
2nd round: In-person interview + classroom tour
Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction in a structured self-contained environment
Support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs
Implement IEP goals, accommodations, and skill-building plans
Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and SPED leadership
Use behavior-support strategies and de-escalation techniques when needed
Maintain required documentation and student progress tracking
Requirements:
Active PEL with LBS1 endorsement (required)
Minimum 2+ years of Special Education experience
Comfortable working with mild/moderate and moderate/severe behaviors
Therapeutic Day School experience strongly preferred
CPR, TB screening, and health clearance if required
Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
