Job Title: Construction Inspector
Job Description
The Construction Inspector performs daily inspections on commercial construction projects to verify quality, safety, and compliance with building codes, construction drawings, and project specifications. This role involves visual and physical inspections, field testing of materials, detailed documentation of findings, and close collaboration with project teams to resolve potential issues while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Perform daily inspections of construction projects to monitor quality and adherence to building code requirements, construction drawings, and project specifications.
Conduct visual and physical inspections and perform field testing of materials, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and related systems, to verify conformance with plans and specifications.
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to plan and execute inspection activities accurately.
Perform testing, observation, and inspection in accordance with training and specified procedures to determine if work is performed according to contract requirements.
Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports and provide written documentation of observations, test results, and any nonconformance identified.
Perform basic analysis and review of collected data to verify accuracy before communicating and submitting results to the Project Manager.
Communicate findings, test results, and inspection issues to the Project Manager and other designated personnel in a timely and professional manner.
Interact with clients and other site personnel when needed to provide input on appropriate resolution of inspection findings.
Assist the Project Manager in developing the scope of testing and inspection services for projects when requested.
Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and office leadership to ensure efficient scheduling and deployment to project sites.
Maintain inspection and testing equipment in good working condition and ensure proper operation and calibration as required.
Support and assist more sr inspectors on large or complex projects, contributing to team-based problem solving and learning.
Follow all safety rules, procedures, and project-specific safety requirements, including performing pre-task planning prior to executing work.
Promptly report any safety issues, hazards, or concerns to management and take appropriate steps to mitigate risks.
Take responsibility for maintaining high quality standards on all assigned projects and consistently uphold established quality processes.
Essential Skills
Demonstrated experience in construction inspection, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and related systems.
Ability to perform field testing and inspections, including use of inspection equipment and methods appropriate for concrete, structural steel, and other construction materials.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, details, and specifications accurately.
Strong written communication skills to prepare clear, detailed inspection reports and document nonconformance.
Ability to perform basic analysis and validation of test data prior to submittal.
Effective verbal communication skills to convey findings to Project Managers, clients, and site personnel.
Minimum 2 years of experience with structural steel bolting and structural steel welding inspection.
ACI certification (required).
Experience with ICC-related inspection areas such as proprietary anchors, post-tensioning, and structural wood.
Familiarity with nuclear density gauge and aggregate testing.
Valid driver’s license.
Commitment to following strict safety standards and procedures on all projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification highly preferred.
Experience as a CWI Inspector or similar role is a strong plus.
Experience working on commercial construction projects, particularly in structural and civil construction.
Ability to collaborate with project teams and contribute to problem solving and resolution of field issues.
Motivation to pursue additional certifications and professional development, with support from the employer to continue the certification process and advance career levels.
Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, reporting, and coordination across multiple projects.
Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining consistent communication with project leadership.
Work Environment
This role is primarily onsite at commercial construction projects, with work focused in the Tacoma, Seattle, and Bellevue areas. Travel is generally limited to these local regions, and scheduling efforts aim to keep inspectors assigned to projects close to their homes. The position involves working in active construction environments, including exposure to outdoor conditions, varying weather, noise, and typical construction site activities. The inspector regularly uses field testing and inspection equipment, such as tools for concrete and structural steel inspection, nuclear density gauges, and related devices. The work emphasizes strict adherence to safety standards, pre-task planning, and consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Projects are often high profile, providing exposure to complex and notable commercial developments, and the organization actively supports ongoing certification and career advancement within this environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lynnwood, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
