Amazon Safety Design and Engineering Manager , WHS Design and Engineering in Luxembourg, Luxembourg

To support this focus area, Amazon is seeking WHS Design and Engineering Managers to play a critical role to ensure high standards of safety are built into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfilment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Stations across Europe.

As the single-threaded leader for safety integration, the successful candidate will partner with Design, Engineering, Construction, Startup, Launch, and Operations teams to ensure safe and regulatory-compliant facilities and equipment are delivered to our operational teams. Success in this role requires the ability to comprehend and apply complex technical documents, requirements, and solutions while communicating clearly and consistently, both verbally and in writing.

You will leverage strong safety and technical expertise when collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, building the trust and confidence essential to driving safety excellence across the network.

Location: Luxembourg, with up to 75% of time traveling within EU countries and the UK.

Key job responsibilities

• Drive Safety Innovation: Function as a catalyst, communicator, facilitator, researcher, and technical thinker to assess and enhance facility and equipment system designs from a WHS perspective, ensuring proper execution throughout the project lifecycle.

• Ensure Compliance: Through effective collaboration and positive stakeholder relationships, ensure safe implementation and regulatory compliance for all activities related to site expansion, launch, acquisition, divestment, and equipment system deployment.

• Lead Technical Reviews: Serve as WHS technical voice during design reviews and on-site assessments, ensuring compliance with Amazon standards and regulatory requirements. Lead safety technical reviews and risk assessments for new equipment systems.

• Conduct Site Assessments: Verify all applicable regulatory requirements, engineering specifications, and WHS standards are integrated into construction, installation, and start-up phases. Create and maintain punch lists, distribute reports to relevant teams, and track mitigation actions to reduce risks to acceptable levels before project launch.

• Demonstrate Ownership: Exhibit the knowledge, ownership, and self-direction necessary to drive change in an autonomous technical environment.

• Optimize Travel Efficiency: Plan and arrange travel with frugality and time efficiency while aligning with critical project milestones and stakeholder needs.

• Capture Lessons Learned: Collect, categorize, and share insights from completed projects to ensure continuous improvement and incorporation into future launches.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)

  • Demonstrated understanding and application of risk assessment methodologies

  • Experience in responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, engineering/facilities or service operations

  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment

  • Relevant program or project management experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools

  • Valid driving license with experience driving in the UK and Continental Europe

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent qualification

  • Technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards and regulations, robotics and automated conveyors to meet all European country’s requirements and lead procurement and implementation of systems across the network

  • Technical knowledge and project experience in building construction and fire safety

  • Strong planning and prioritization capabilities with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in dynamic environments

  • Experience with project management tools to track initiatives and deliverables

  • Working knowledge of AI fundamentals and practical applications
