Lutsen Mountains Corporation (DBA Lutsen Mountains), 467 Ski Hill Road, Lutsen, MN 55612, (218) 663-7281, is seeking a Lift Operations and Recreation Supervisor!
This is a year-round, full-time position:
This position works on site at Lutsen Mountains at 467 Ski Hill Road in Lutsen, MN 55612.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for guest and co-worker safety at the chairlifts, gondola, and alpine slides. Must be safety conscious and able to make quick decisions.
Work well with all mountain departments as it pertains to lift operations and ensure work breaks are being given on time to lift personnel in assigned zones.
Responsible for making positive contact with our guests as they enjoy our mountain.
Participate in training for lift operators and recreation attendants, ensuring training documents are kept current.
Assist the Lift Operations Manager with mentoring and performance reviews.
Coordinates and assists in daily setup, and routine maintenance of lift and recreation areas.
Maintain load and unload ramps and areas around all lift stations
Identify and report any unusual problems or hazardous conditions to ensure the public’s safety.
Be familiar with all policies, procedures and rules regarding operating and riding a ski lift, gondola, and alpine slides.
Perform daily pre-operation inspections and post-operation shutdown procedures.
Assist with any necessary projects, such as fencing, maze set-up, and sign replacement.
Monitor pass and ticket scans to verify they are being used by the purchaser.
Assist Mountain Operations with projects and daily tasks as needed.
Additional duties as assigned.
Recreation Responsibilities:
Train other guides to be able to take out groups independently.
Lead guided hiking and kayak/canoe tours on various trails, ensuring guests' safety, enjoyment, and engagement.
Educate guests on natural surroundings, wildlife, and the local history of the area.
Adjust the pace and route to suit the skill levels and preferences of the group.
Monitor group dynamics and ensure guests are properly equipped.
Provide instruction on proper techniques, safety procedures, and safety.
Provide first aid in the event of an emergency and follow safety protocols.
Ensure guests are aware of Leave No Trace principles and encourage environmentally responsible behavior.
Maintain a positive and welcoming attitude, ensuring a memorable experience for all participants.
Keep a keen eye on weather conditions and adjust plans if necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable tour.
Offer an engaging and educational experience, with a focus on fun and adventure.
Ensure maintenance and storage of any gear is handled correctly and in a timely manner.
Additional duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE
40 hours per week. Work schedule can vary and can include evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Work may be performed on any day of the week from Monday through Sunday.
Example shifts: 8:00am to 5:00pm, 10:00am to 7:00pm, or 2:00pm to 10:00pm. Shift hours may vary.
SHORT-TERM HOUSING
Optional housing is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis for workers who are relocating to begin employment. Accommodation: Dorm-style housing is provided and ranges from $200-$450 per month and is pro-rated at a daily rate and deducted from each paycheck. Deposit is $150 and is refundable so long as there is no damage to the property due to negligence. Deposit is deducted in increments of $50 from your first 3 paychecks. Housing includes bed, linens, TV, Wi-Fi, full-size kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, utensils, and washer/dryer.
OTHER SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS
Must be 18 years or older
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions for long periods of time
Must be able to lift 50lbs as well as twist, turn, and drag equipment
Able to stand for long periods of time
Knowledge of lift machinery and daily operational procedures.
Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude with co-workers and guests.
Exceptional communication skills; Ability to lead a team to a successful season.
Exceptional guest service skills; Ability to work in a very fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Ability to operate a company vehicle preferred. Valid driver's license.
Must provide or be willing to take a snowmobile and ATV online class to obtain a certificate from the Wisconsin DNR
Must be able to handle stressful, noisy, crowded and distracting situations
Must be able to make quality decisions and to motivate and direct others
Basic first aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season).
Must be physically fit and able to navigate rugged terrain and handle physically demanding activities.
OTHER DETAILS
A single workweek will be the standard for computing wages due, and employees are paid every two weeks.
All deductions from paycheck required by law will be made, in addition to deductions related to employee housing noted above.
The employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job.
