Tool & Die Maker - 2nd Shift | Lumberton, NC
Olsten Staffing is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to join our manufacturing team on 2nd shift in Lumberton, NC. This role involves analyzing specifications, setting up and operating machines and tools, and fitting and assembling parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinist hand tools.
Key Responsibilities
Study blueprints or specifications and visualize the shape of dies, parts, or tools
Compute assembly dimensions and plan sequence of operations
Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock using precision instruments (protractors, micrometers, scribes, rulers)
Set up and operate machine tools including band saws, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders
Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates
Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloth, or power grinders
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators
Fit and assemble parts using bolts, glue, and hand tools such as hammers and wrenches
Check hardness of parts or tools using hardness testers
Repair or modify tools and dies using machine and hand tools
Design tools, jigs, fixtures, and templates as work aids
Test dies for first hit to ensure part quality
Inspect dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects visually or by touch using loupes or microscopes
Flexibility to work any shift as needed
Qualifications
Tool & Die Associate's Degree or Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification required
CNC machining experience required
Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, precision measuring tools, and machining processes
Experience operating both manual and CNC machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses
Ability to troubleshoot tooling and assist with process improvements and repairs
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for extended periods
Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
Fine hand manipulation and gripping for operating tools and precision instruments
Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils, and metal debris
Ability to visually inspect parts and read precision measuring instruments
Must wear required PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed shoes

Pay Details: $30.20 per hour
