Position: Programmable Logic Controller (

PLC) Technician

Department: Water and Sewer Utilities

Reports To: Water and Sewer Superintendent

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay: $29.80-$39.76 per hour, based on qualifications


DESCRIPTION

The PLC Technician is responsible for the programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) utilized in water and sewer infrastructure. This position requires advanced expertise in PLC systems to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our water and sewer operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical education in electrical engineering, automation, industrial electronics, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with PLC systems and related SCADA or computer applications in municipal water and wastewater utility environments required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and work outside of regular business hours when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagrams) and software (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control principles related to water and sewer infrastructure.
  • Skills in excellent problem-solving and attention to detail in diagnosing and resolving PLC-related issues.
  • Skills in effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly.
  • Skills in strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for PLC installations and modifications.

MAJOR DUTIES

Program, configure, and maintain PLC systems used in water production and wastewater treatment plant applications.

Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design, implement, and optimize PLC-based control systems for various water and sewer processes.

Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on PLC hardware and software to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance.

Troubleshoot PLC malfunctions, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
