Summary:
Provide supervision and general guidance to residents to assure an environment is maintained whereby positive behavior changes in residents can be fostered and realized.
Essential Duties:
- Supervise and directly work with offenders/residents, including modeling appropriate behavior.
- Organize resident activities.
- Interact with the residents, public, and coworkers displaying effective interpersonal skills that convey a sense of concern and understanding yet maintain a sense of objectivity in assuring the policies and procedures of the CRTC are not compromised.
- Prepare well-documented reports to include incident reports, communication logs, head counts, resident chrono entries, security checks, and Cognitive Reflective Communications (CRCs).
- Process the intake of new residents and ensure the resident's property is properly secured.
- Conduct resident pat and strip searches, as well as searches of living areas, common areas, buildings, vehicles, and grounds. Also, secure and document and seized or discovered contraband.
- Safely operate facility vehicles in providing resident transportation and ensure vehicles are maintained in a safe operating condition, reporting all mechanical and/or fluid deficiencies.
- Conduct transports in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in carrying out emergency procedures for fire, severe weather, suicide, and/or other emergency and evacuation plans.
- Follow trained procedures for the handling of aggressive residents.
- Knowledgeable in procedures for collecting and securing resident urine samples, as well as conducting breathalyzer tests.
- Adhere to work schedules and effectively manage accrued personal time, comp time, and holidays.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Attend all required training.
- Follow medical precautions and practice universal precautions.
- May be assigned additional duties, not explicitly set out herein, but which will adhere to specific job guidelines. The Director reserves the right to change or modify the task required for this position as programming or workload dictates.
Position Requirements:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, with some college preferred. Follow all Department of Criminal Justice Community Justice Assistance Division (TDCJ-CJAD) and departmental standards and policies. Adhere to the TDCJ-CJAD and departmental Code of Ethics. Regular and punctual attendance. Travel within the city environment, with little notice, for job-related tasks. Travel inside and outside the city to attend trainings and program development, on short notice and on occasion overnight, when and where assigned, as required by the TDCJ-CJAD Standards for CSCDs and CRTCs. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and liability automobile insurance pursuant to Texas motor vehicle laws. Must have a telephone number at which he/she can be reached and access to reliable transportation. Must be able to pass a criminal history check. Respond to physical altercations and potential physical incidents by establishing control over those present. Collect the facts of the situation, including all individuals involved, determine the problem, resolve the problem in an appropriate manner, and document accordingly. Be capable of delivering CPR, First Aid, and respond to emergencies (i.e., physical and natural) as needed.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; unassisted mobility within an office environment, within the CRTC, and within the community; maintain the ability to occasionally stand, walk, kneel, stoop, and bend during the course of your shift; reach, grip, and use fine dexterity; push and pull objects; occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds; occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height; use vision and depth perception; talking and hearing.
