The Manager Technical Accounting and External Reporting plays a pivotal role in supporting Brown-Forman's reporting function and technical accounting efforts, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC guidelines. Reporting directly to the Director Technical Accounting and External Reporting, this individual will be responsible for supporting the preparation and review of the annual Form 10-K and the quarterly Form 10-Qs, including the notes to the consolidated financial statements. The role is also responsible for researching and analyzing complex accounting issues and supporting leadership regarding the accounting implications of non-routine transactions. In this role, you’ll work on complex reporting areas, collaborate across departments, and contribute to process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
What You Can Expect
Support the timely preparation of external financial reports, including SEC Form 10-Q and 10-K reports, and ensure financial statements and footnotes are presented in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC guidelines.
Partner with FP&A to perform detailed reviews and tie-outs of financial operating results for accuracy, including both GAAP and non-GAAP management reporting results.
Monitor new accounting pronouncements and lead implementation efforts, including creation of required disclosures and management / accounting personnel education.
Research and conclude on accounting for non-routine, complex transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including preparation of technical memorandums that frame the issues, analysis, and conclusions.
Coordinate with external auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reporting deliverables.
Ensure compliance with internal controls within assigned areas of responsibility.
Prepare interim and annual disclosure checklists to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
Assist in the preparation of the consolidated statement of cash flows for quarterly external reporting purposes.
Manage close process for certain technical accounting areas, including but not limited to, incentive compensation plans, postretirement benefits, and equity-related areas such as share-based compensation and earnings per share.
Support intangibles impairment assessment process, as applicable.
Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, legal, tax, operations, and other stakeholders to identify and resolve accounting and financial reporting matters.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead initiatives to refine and streamline the financial reporting process.
Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.
On an as needed basis, this position will be responsible for assisting with the integration and carve out of financials related to acquisitions and divestitures that may arise as part of B-F’s strategic portfolio reshaping. This includes assisting in purchase price accounting and valuation for the company's acquired/divested entities, and working cross-functionally on due diligence activities, integration, and related integration support.
What You Bring to the Table
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
CPA or other relevant professional certification is required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting or publicly traded company experience.
Experience supervising and developing professional staff is a plus.
Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, with the ability to articulate complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
Experience with technical accounting research and technical memorandum writing.
Experience in working with SAP, Business Warehouse or similar ERP software.
Proven analytical capabilities with the ability to collect, analyze, and present results in a concise format.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, BI tools).
Strong verbal and written presentation skills.
Proven organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency and understanding of global business processes and systems.
Working Arrangement
In-office at the Brown-Forman Louisville, Kentucky Corporate Headquarters Monday to Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
