Job Description
The Maintenance & Facility Manager leads all facility infrastructure, utilities, and equipment maintenance operations to ensure a safe, compliant, and reliable 7-day biotech manufacturing operation.
This role is responsible for leading the maintenance team, managing preventive maintenance programs, ensuring equipment and facility reliability, controlling maintenance costs, and supporting continuous operations in a cGMP/ISO-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Facility & Infrastructure Leadership
Lead and manage all facility and building maintenance operations (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, boilers, utilities)
Ensure safe and reliable operation of building infrastructure supporting 7-day biotech manufacturing
Oversee facility inspections, repairs, and improvement projects
Manage contractors, vendors, and service providers
Ensure chemical storage, waste handling, and environmental compliance
Laboratory Equipment Maintenance
Lead the maintenance team in fixing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating laboratory and production equipment
Ensure high reliability and uptime of lab equipment such as oligo synthesizers, liquid handlers, HPLC systems, and general laboratory instruments
Establish preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all lab equipment
Support installation, validation, and qualification of new laboratory equipment
Minimize equipment downtime and ensure rapid response to equipment failures
Coordinate with operations and quality teams to maintain equipment performance and compliance
Maintenance Team Management
Lead, supervise, and develop maintenance technicians and facility staff
Establish maintenance strategies, SOPs, and performance standards
Coordinate staffing, schedules, and on-call coverage
Ensure weekend and off-shift maintenance support as needed
Drive accountability, safety, and operational efficiency
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Ensure compliance with cGMP, ISO, EHS, and safety regulations
Maintain maintenance documentation and audit readiness
Lead continuous improvement initiatives (5S, RCA, reliability programs)
Manage maintenance budget and cost control initiatives
Partner with operations and quality teams to support continuous production
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred
Experience
Minimum 5+ years of Maintenance Manager or Facility Manager experience
Experience managing maintenance teams in biotech or manufacturing environments
Strong experience with building utilities (HVAC, boilers, compressors, electrical, plumbing)
Experience in cGMP or ISO-regulated environment preferred
Experience with CMMS and vendor management
Proven leadership and cost control experience

Ability to support 7-day manufacturing operations
On-call and weekend availability as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Experience in biotech, genomics, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
Knowledge of oligonucleotide manufacturing
Experience with automation and facility systems
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 35+ pounds
Ability to work in manufacturing and laboratory environments
Ability to wear PPE and respirator if required
