Position Summary
The Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hydraulic excavators used in site preparation, trenching, grading, demolition, utility installation, and earthmoving operations. This position supports TTandL's construction, hauling, traffic control, and infrastructure projects across municipal, state, and federal job sites.
Operators must follow all OSHA safety standards, NCDOT specifications, and company safety protocols while maintaining productivity and equipment integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
Operate hydraulic excavators for:
Site preparation and land clearing
Excavation and trenching
Utility installation support
Demolition operations
Loading trucks with soil, debris, or aggregate
Grading and slope work
Perform precision excavation around utilities and structures.
Maintain awareness of underground utilities using 811 locate markings and site plans.
Job Site Duties
Work closely with foremen, laborers, and truck drivers to coordinate site operations.
Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications.
Assist with backfilling, compaction, and grading activities.
Maintain safe working distances from workers, structures, and traffic.
Safety and Compliance
Follow OSHA regulations and TTandL Safety Handbook procedures.
Conduct daily equipment inspections and pre-trip reports.
Maintain compliance with NCDOT traffic control and construction standards.
Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately.
Equipment Maintenance
Perform daily maintenance including:
Checking hydraulic systems
Inspecting tracks, buckets, and attachments
Monitoring fuel and fluid levels
Keep equipment clean and in good operating condition.
Report mechanical issues promptly.
