UCLA Health Staff Research Associate 2 in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a Staff Research Associate 2 to support research activities within the Division of Digestive Diseases, with a primary focus on Microbiome Core services and laboratory operations.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, this role will perform specialized laboratory procedures, including processing human biological specimens, DNA/RNA extraction and sequencing library preparation, ELISA-based assays, and anaerobic microbial culture.

In addition, the position will support key laboratory operations such as equipment maintenance, inventory management, freezer organization, and ensuring a clean and safe lab environment. The incumbent will collaborate with research staff and partners across UCLA and will be expected to carry out technical procedures independently following training, while maintaining accurate and detailed records.

Hourly range: $31.23-$50.24

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to use a personal computer and basic computer applications.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

  • Ability to organize and present results in an appropriate format.

  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.

  • Able to read and understand scientific protocols.

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to work independently after training.

  • Ability to work in an aseptic environment.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to reliably pipette hundreds of samples with no errors.

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work schedule.

Preferred:

  • Educational background in Biological Sciences, BA or equivalent combination of education & experience.
