UCLA Health Senior Fund Manager in Los Angeles, California
Description
The Semel Institute is seeking a Senior Fund Manager to oversee comprehensive post‑award administration for a diverse portfolio of intra‑ and extramurally funded research projects. Working under the direction of the Department Chair, CAO, Director of Research Administration, and other departmental leaders, you will serve as the primary financial steward for assigned Principal Investigators. Core responsibilities include running monthly financial reports, reconciling payroll and non‑payroll expenditures, preparing and submitting prior‑approval requests, managing financial closeouts, and ensuring compliance with university and sponsor policies.
In this role, you will act as a key liaison between Extramural Fund Management (EFM), investigators, and departmental administrators, providing clear guidance and proactive financial oversight. You will initiate and monitor transactions in the General Ledger and UCPath, maintain accurate and timely financial records, and meet regularly with PIs to review account status and projections. This position is ideal for a detail‑oriented, collaborative professional with strong analytical skills and experience managing complex research funding portfolios.
Annual range: $70,900-$145,200
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience
High School Diploma and or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of research administration experience.
Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate information in a timely, professional manner.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
Ability to set priorities and complete ongoing tasks with competing deadlines, with frequent interruptions, to meet programmatic and financial needs.
Close attention to detail in a fast-paced, fluctuating workload environment.
Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft suite software, especially Excel.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting
Preferred:
*Organization skills to create and maintain administrative and financial files effectively.
Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize job functions, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with multiple proposal submission systems.
Experience preparing, managing, and projecting budgets.
Mathematical skills for the preparation of complex calculations and forecasts and to identify and resolve complicated financial scenarios.
Knowledge of and experience working with a variety of external sponsors, federal and state sponsors, private foundations, industry sponsors, etc.
