UCLA Health Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (Limited Appointment) in Los Angeles, California
Description
UCLA Health is
seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented medical student or
undergraduate with prior clinical research experience to join a dynamic
clinical and translational research team focused on musculoskeletal health,
sports medicine, and regenerative therapies. This role is designed for
individuals interested in developing advanced research skills, contributing to
peer-reviewed publications, and gaining meaningful exposure to patient-centered
orthopaedic research. The position offers the opportunity to work on
high-impact projects spanning systematic reviews, clinical studies, and
translational initiatives as well as direct mentorship with faculty engaged in
federally funded clinical and translational research. This position also
provides strong support for trainees pursuing medical school, residency, or
academic careers.
Primary
duties include:
Conduct retrospective and prospective chart reviews, including data abstraction and database management
Assist with patient recruitment, screening, and enrollment for ongoing clinical trials
Engage with study participants, including follow-up communication and outcomes collection
Ensure compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and data integrity standards
Help draft, revise, and maintain IRB submissions, including protocols, amendments, and continuing reviews
Assist in preparation of informed consent documents and study-related regulatory materials
Perform systematic reviews and literature reviews, including database searches (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane) and manuscript drafting
Contribute to manuscript writing, editing, and submission for peer-reviewed journals
Conduct/assist with statistical analysis and data interpretation using software such as R, SPSS, or Stata (training available as needed)
Generate figures, tables, and summaries for academic dissemination
Prepare and deliver presentations at weekly lab/research meetings
Participate in journal clubs and contribute to critical appraisal of emerging literature
Support development of abstracts for submission to national meetings (e.g., AAOS, AOSSM)
Salary range: $27.08/hr -
$43.55/hr

Qualifications
Required:
At least 1 year of clinical research experience (e.g., chart reviews, clinical trials, data collection)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft suite software, especially Excel
Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate information in a timely, professional manner
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients in a compassionate and kind manner
Analytical thinking and problem solving skills
Ability to handle confidential information
Ability to travel to various clinic sites, meetings, conferences, etc.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
Preferred:
Medical student OR undergraduate degree (or senior undergraduate)
Interest in orthopaedics, sports medicine, or translational research
Experience with scientific writing and literature review methods
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (R, SPSS, Stata, or similar)
Prior exposure to IRB processes or clinical trial coordination
