Los Alamos National Laboratory Production Control Specialist 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Supply Chain Management organization within the Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (TRIAD) is looking for an exceptional Controlled Storage Custodian to join the Supply Chain Management Group (SCL-2). The selected candidate will manage construction, programmatic, and facility related material for the Associate Lab Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This is a vital part of ensuring construction, and facility milestones and deliverables are met.

The selected candidate will utilize multiple inventory management systems to maintain and verify inventory levels as well as ensure item traceability, ensure items are stored on shelves and organized in a manner that will ensure expeditious item retrieval, and are responsible for locating, pulling, and staging material for construction related activities.

They will also ensure material pulled is the correct Management Level (ML) for end use application and comply with applicable codes and standards, and institution-controlled storage procedures, P330-11, 12, and 13, ensuring material is controlled, defined storage level requirements are met, shelf-life enforcement, accuracy of inventory records, and maintenance or special handling of quality-affecting items.

One will maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet areas, and workstations neat, maintaining a clean receiving area, complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, working cohesively in a team environment, providing high level of attention to detail, and exhibit strong organizational skills.

Successful candidates will be able to contribute to the resolutions of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors including assuring safety and security compliance, maintaining required safety and security training, and making safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop or pause work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

They should have knowledge of relevant Laboratory policies, procedures, and standards, and inventory management and control practices with an awareness of NQA-1 standards, general knowledge of supply chain management and resource management practices, and knowledge of configuration management, change control, and release management processes.

Due to staffing needs, this position will support weekend shift work (Thursday through Sunday 5:00PM-3:30AM).

  • Education/Experience: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Material Management:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage material in accordance with applicable quality assurance and industry standards.

  • Previous materials management experience.

  • Business Systems:

  • Above average computer skills and demonstrated experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems, and proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access

  • Communication:

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in interacting and communicating both written and orally with customers in a customer service-related setting.

  • Ability to proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives. Ability to communicate findings and make recommendations.

  • Customer Service:

  • Seeking candidates with a strong background in customer service who can communicate effectively, resolve issues efficiently, and maintain a positive, professional demeanor when working with our customer base and team members.

  • Additional Job Requirements:

  • Previous materials management experience.

  • Ability to work independently, and take initiative to perform tasks.

  • Basic knowledge of construction and/or maintenance activities and processing an aptitude toward mechanical and electrical components

  • An understanding and experience using QA standards, and familiarity with LANL Management Levels.

  • Ability to work and function with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with construction disciplines to include electrical, mechanical, and fire protection.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Ability to obtain HRP certification.

  • Ability to obtain a forklift license.

  • Chemical Management experience.

  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.

  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA Complex specific codes, standards.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills. Experience managing material in a nuclear environment and ensuring item traceability.

  • Awareness and willingness to learn supply chain management practices and the appropriate handling of chemicals and storage requirements.

  • An Active DOE Q-level clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
