Job Description
The Opto-Mechanical Technician installs, aligns, and integrates optical, electro-optical, and mechanical components for advanced high-energy laser systems. This role focuses on precise opto-mechanical and fiber optic assembly, thorough inspection of components, and hands-on troubleshooting to ensure reliable performance in demanding environments.
Responsibilities
Install, align, and integrate optics, electro-optics, and mechanical components according to engineering specifications and procedures.
Perform fiber optic assembly and installation, including routing, securing, and terminating fiber optic cabling.
Carry out opto-mechanical assembly tasks, ensuring accurate positioning and secure mounting of optical and mechanical parts.
Receive and inspect incoming components to verify conformance with quality, documentation, and performance requirements.
Execute bonding processes for optical and mechanical assemblies, following established methods and cleanliness standards.
Assemble and support laser systems, including electro-optical and laser subassemblies.
Perform electrical soldering work as needed to support electro-optical and laser assemblies.
Troubleshoot issues in optical, electro-optical, mechanical, and fiber optic assemblies to identify root causes and implement effective corrections.
Collaborate closely with engineering and other technical staff to resolve integration challenges and improve assembly processes.
Maintain accurate records of assembly, inspection, and test activities in accordance with project and quality requirements.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with fiber optics, including fiber optic assembly and cabling.
Proficiency in electro-optical assembly and integration.
Experience with laser assembly and related optical components.
Ability to perform precise opto-mechanical assembly and alignment.
Skill in electrical soldering work for electro-optical and laser systems.
Experience receiving and inspecting technical components for quality and conformance.
Demonstrated troubleshooting ability in optics, electro-optics, mechanics, and fiber optics.
Background in aerospace or defense environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience working on high-energy laser or similar advanced optical systems.
Familiarity with ruggedized systems designed for challenging environmental conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship in precision assemblies.
Ability to follow detailed technical drawings, procedures, and work instructions.
Effective communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary technical team.
Work Environment
This role supports the development of next-generation national defense high-energy laser technologies. The weapon systems are rugged, compact, and engineered to operate in some of the most challenging environments. Technicians work in a hands-on, lab and production setting focused on the assembly and integration of optical, electro-optical, mechanical, and laser components. The environment emphasizes precision, cleanliness, and adherence to strict quality and performance standards, with close collaboration among technicians, engineers, and other technical professionals.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Longmont, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr.
