FUI is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to be based out of our Long Prairie, MN Central Bi-Products location or our Redwood Falls, MN Corporate Office. Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Environmental Regulatory Compliance Records, Reports, and Permits

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with contracted environmental services on policies and standards for programs (air quality, storm water, wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, etc.); communicate internally to ensure compliance

Organize and maintain environmental regulatory records

Provide technical support and assist with implementation of management decisions regarding regulatory and compliance strategy of the organization

Maintain knowledge of changing state and federal environmental regulations, industry trends, and best practices; assess impact of changes

Develop strong internal and external relationships with key stakeholders, including city engineers, contractors, municipal officials, and government agency personnel

Complete site inspections, water quality sampling activities, and pollution evaluation work

Participate in negotiations with government agencies about environmental permitting and other compliance issues

Assist with management of annual budget; review and compare actual results to budgetary performance; and prepare reports reflecting results

Conduct inspections and follow up administrative actions and enforcement for construction site activities

Assess product, compliance, and operational risks and develop risk management strategies; assist with developing risk management strategies (i.e., product, compliance, operational)

Conduct internal reviews and audits to ensure compliance procedures are being followed

Obtain, maintain, and revise environmental permits as necessary

Provide regulatory assistance to Complex Managers and other relevant departments

Maintain highest level of confidentiality and professionalism while promoting a positive image of the company

Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance

Travel between 10-25% annually (depending on base location)

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field; or comparable years’ experience, preferred

Knowledge and understanding of federal and state environmental regulations

High level of proficiency, accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality

Advanced written and verbal communication skills with high level of professionalism

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-team capacity, as well as manage time with little supervision

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Work in a facility that processes multiple species including cows, pigs, and poultry

Must be 18 years of age or older for insurance purposes

Physical Requirements

Perform desk work (sitting or standing) for up to 90% of workday

Repetitively use wrist, hand, and/or fingers

Frequently walk and bend at the knees and/or waist

Ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions; wet, slippery condition
