Duties Description The applicant will be required to operate a dump truck and other heavy equipment. Will also be required to operate a chain saw, pole saw, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and other power equipment of a similar type. The applicant must have working knowledge of and ability to use methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades in which assigned. They may not be assigned to the same same job location each day, and should expect to be assigned to anywhere in the working circle during work days including campgrounds and remote facilities. The applicant must be able to perform moderate to heavy labor. Applicant should have the ability to read plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints. The applicant must have the ability to understand and carry out any written and oral directions. They must have the ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms.The applicant will need to have boat certification due to being a part of the operations team and the need to possibly go out on one of the three bodies of water, we have facilities on for an emergency response. The applicant will be required to live at house #6 at the William C Whitney maintenance center complex and be available for any emergency response to the systems there during off hours.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. Incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required.
