Robert Half Accountant- Staff or Senior in Long Beach, California
Description We are looking for a Staff or Senior Accountant to join an apparel company in Long Beach, California in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This onsite role is well suited for an accounting specialist with strong general ledger expertise who is comfortable supporting month-end close and maintaining accurate financial records in a consumer products or retail environment. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Controller while contributing to core accounting operations and reserve analysis.
Responsibilities:
• Manage general ledger activity, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly close tasks to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain accounting for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and routine accruals in accordance with company policy and GAAP standards.
• Review and support tax-related filings such as sales and use tax documentation and property tax reporting for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepare and analyze accounting reserves, including commissions and product returns, to ensure appropriate financial statement treatment.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies across key accounts.
• Partner with the Controller to support ongoing accounting operations and strengthen reporting accuracy within the finance function.
• Contribute accounting insight within an apparel, retail, or consumer products setting, applying industry-relevant knowledge to daily financial activities. Requirements • 5+ years of accounting experience, with consideration for either Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant level based on depth of expertise.
• Strong background in general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
• Hands-on experience with prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and accrual accounting.
• Familiarity with GAAP and the ability to prepare accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
• Experience using Oracle or a comparable enterprise accounting system.
• Industry experience in apparel, retail, consumer products, or a similar environment is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of bank reconciliations, reserve accounting, and tax-related reporting is preferred.
