Purpose

The Senior Manager Data Engineering is an enterprise individual‑contributor role accountable for the design, development, and sustainment of complex data engineering solutions that support analytics, operational reporting, and regulatory insight across Liberty Utilities. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy, applying advanced technical judgment to architect scalable data pipelines and platforms that impact multiple business units and utility commodities.

This position is responsible for technical leadership without direct people management, including setting engineering standards, influencing solution design decisions, and guiding lower‑level engineers. Work is performed within established IT governance frameworks but requires independent decision‑making on complex technical matters with enterprise‑wide implications.

Accountabilities

•Accountable for the design and implementation of enterprise‑scale data pipelines, data models, and data warehouse solutions.

•Integrates and structures large, complex data sets from multiple internal and external sources.

•Ensures data reliability, scalability, performance optimization, and data quality standards are met across platforms.

•Applies advanced data engineering principles to address non‑routine and ambiguous technical challenges.

•Translates business and analytic requirements into technical data solutions through direct partnership with Data Architects, Analytics teams, and business stakeholders.

•Enables enterprise reporting, dashboards, and analytical products used for leadership decision‑making and operational performance.

•Evaluates solution alternatives and recommends approaches based on technical feasibility, risk, and long‑term sustainability.

•Establishes and maintains data engineering standards, coding frameworks, and best practices aligned with Liberty IT governance.

•Provides technical direction and guidance to lower‑level Data Engineers without formal supervisory authority.

•Serves as a subject matter expert for complex enhancements and architectural decisions.

•Provides advanced technical consulting, incident support, and root‑cause analysis for production data solutions.

•Supports full lifecycle delivery using Agile methodologies, including design, development, testing, deployment, and stabilization.

•Ensures solutions meet defined quality, security, and release standards.

•Produces and maintains technical documentation, design artifacts, and solution standards to support auditability, regulatory review, and knowledge transfer.

•Ensures alignment with enterprise change and release management processes.

Education and Experience

  • University - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in related field of study

  • 10+ years in Data Engineering

  • 5+ years as Lead, Principle, or Manager-level responsibilities in Data Engineering

  • Prior utility industry experience preferrable
