IBM Technical Sales Engineer - FinOps in London, United Kingdom

Your role and responsibilities

A Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for tailoring company solutions to meet the needs of customer. You will support Solution Consultants in presales activities including RFPs, demos, and workshops, building tailored solutions that clearly demonstrate business value. You will analyse cloud and financial data to uncover insights, develop compelling demo environments, and translate complex concepts into clear outcomes for customers. You will also collaborate with product and engineering teams to bring real-world feedback into solution and demo improvements.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Experience in FinOps, including cost analysis, optimization, and financial governance practices

• Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

• Experience in client-facing or presales environments, including supporting demos, workshops, or customer engagements

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Solid data analysis and manipulation skills, including working with large datasets and deriving insights

• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to break down complex issues and identify root causes efficiently

• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively across sales, engineering, and product teams

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Data Science, or a related field

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Experience with FinOps and cloud optimization tools such as IBM Cloudability, Kubecost, and IBM Turbonomic

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments

• Relevant certifications such as:

  • FinOps certification

  • Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP)

  • Kubernetes certifications (CKA)

• Knowledge of IT financial management concepts, including budgeting, cost allocation, capital vs. operating expenses, and portfolio management

• Advanced Excel skills, including formulaic logic and large dataset handling

• Basic programming or scripting experience (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, Python, APIs)

• Experience building or supporting demo environments and contributing to reusable presales assets
