Your team: Do you live and breathe all things celebrity? Can you sniff out a great story on social media, get a cracking line from a red carpet chat and spot a golden TV moment before it goes viral? Do you want to work for the UK's No1 showbiz team? Well, we're hiring!
Your role: You will deliver the latest exciting entertainment news to our loyal online audience who rely on us for all the up-to-the-minute gossip. You will be working in a hybrid capacity for The Sun’s fast-paced digital operation. This will involve writing about the biggest TV shows, our readers’ favourite famous faces and beating our rivals to the hottest showbiz stories.
Day to day you will:
Write sparkling, snappy copy in The Sun’s unique, authoritative tone.
Watch live TV, whether it be daytime shows or primetime reality, and be able to pull out the strongest, newsiest lines.
Keep across the social media activity of all The Sun’s go-to celebs and jump on a story the minute it breaks.
Build copy in CMS (Wordpress)
Generate ideas for two daily conferences and pitch them to the Showbiz Editor leading the shift
Recognising and acting upon any potential legal issues and acting in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.
Maintain a wide knowledge of showbiz, current affairs and trends.
What we’re looking for from you:
We’re looking for someone with experience working as a showbiz journalist, especially working on a celebrity or entertainment website, who is armed with ideas and has a wealth of contacts. The ideal candidate will be:
Unflappable under pressure and deliver work at a consistently high standard.
Have a keen attention to detail, spelling and meticulous fact-checking.
Able to write copy and build stories to a fast, live deadline, while maintaining quality.
Positive can-do attitude and good team player.
Confident at interviewing showbiz personalities and able to ask questions that will produce the most interesting copy.
Adept at suggesting story ideas which reflect the content of the website
Can demonstrate an understanding of The Sun brand, both print and digital.
Flexibility to work nights and weekends over a seven-day rota pattern.
Able to lead a small team of reporters at nights and on weekends with confidence and a clear direction.
