Overview
The Ogden Botanical Gardens Program Coordinator II manages and coordinates the day -to-day operations, programming, and community engagement activities of the Ogden Botanical Gardens (OBG), a public garden maintained by Utah State University and located at 1750 Monroe Boulevard in Ogden, Utah. This position works closely with Utah State University Extension, Ogden City Parks, volunteers, and community partners to support horticultural education, outreach, and public engagement. The coordinator oversees staff and volunteers, manages operational budgets, and plans and implements educational programs and events that support the mission of the gardens. The gardens are open year-round and serve as a public resource for horticulture education and community programming.
Valid driver's license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials
Responsibilities
Coordinate the planning, development, and maintenance of the gardens in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and partner organizations to ensure the facility is maintained in a professional and welcoming manner.
Work directly with the public as a representative of USU- and serve as a primary pint of contact for visitors and community partners.
Answer phones, walk-ins, and all visitors in a professional and timely manner.
Ensure facility is open during regular business hours.
Develop and maintain a budget and monitor program expenses and resources.
Hire and direct seasonal employees.
Help manage Master Gardener volunteers and docents supporting garden programming and events.
Facilitate, teach, and coordinate with the USU Extension Agent on workshops and educational programs related to horticulture and community education.
Maintain a web and social media presence to promote garden activities, programming, and community engagement.
Collaborate with Ogden City Parks in maintaining the property and supporting shared garden initiatives and projects.
Facilitate garden design, maintenance, installation, and expansion of the gardens by coordinating staff, volunteers, and community partners involved in garden development projects.
Partner with the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville to support collaborative programing and outreach efforts.
Be a team player and assist with coordination and programming efforts in the management of two USU botanical properties (Ogden and Kaysville).
Track and maintain records related to garden programming, participation, and operational activities as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field (horticulture, plant science, nursery management, etc.).
2 years' experience with horticulture and public gardens or related program coordination experience.
