Overview

The Instructional Designer I position facilitates learning through instructional design, learning material development, curriculum implementation, technology application, and teaching and learning assessment. The position also involves working with faculty and other subject matter experts to provide design consultation, edtech support, quality assurance, and training in technology and pedagogy.

 

The position will be hired at either an Instructional Designer I (ID I) or Instructional Designer II (ID II) level, depending on duties assigned and qualifications of the candidate.

 

Responsibilities

Instructional Designer I (ID I) Responsibilities

This is an entry-level role that supports faculty and other instructional designers in instructional development, technical support, and training

 

  • Use learning management systems, multimedia development tools, basic web design, and AI to develop instructional materials, including e-learning modules, guides, assessments, and multimedia.

  • Apply instructional design models to support faculty and other designers in course design and development.

  • Provide technical support to faculty and staff in their use of learning management systems and other e-learning tools.

  • Help design and deliver training programs and workshops.

  • Conduct basic research as part of the instructional design process.

  • Assist in ensuring the accessibility of learning materials.

  • Provide quality assurance, evaluation and update of instructional materials to ensure they remain current and relevant.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of instructional design and other activities.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Instructional Designer II (ID II) Additional Responsibilities

This is a mid-level position that involves more independent design work, leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and program managers.

 

  • Work with faculty and program managers to design, evaluate, and iomprove instructional materials and learning environments, applying UDL, accessiblity, needs assessment, and learning science principles to guide design.

  • Provide Tier 2 support and troubleshooting for faculty and staff in their use of educational technologies. Perform front-end systems administration tasks.

  • Develop templates, guides, and tools for scalable course development, teaching effectiveness, and edtech utilization.

  • Provide training, expertise, and project coordination to Tier 1 support staff and instructional developers.

  • Engage with, and periodically lead, team projects to identify existing needs and implement solutions.
